Semperoper

Follow me through the former court theatre designed by architect Gottfried Semper along the route
taken by opera-goers in the evening: through staircase vestibules in festive illumination, underneath
vaulted ceilings supported by imitation marble columns and richly decorated with arabesques, deities
and scenes from well-known works of music and literature from Antiquity to the modern era. Then sit down
in the royal box and let your eye sweep from the gilt chandelier across the velvet upholstery
of the seats up to the “five-minute clock” crowning the stage portal. Listen to stories and anecdotes
about the opera house, about famous composers, music directors, soloists and choreographers, and gain
insight into the work behind the scenes and into daily operations.

Tip: This is an ideal preparation for a visit to a concert or an opera
or ballet performance in the evening.
