Music: Schütz – Weber – Wagner – Strauss
Don’t be afraid of great names! My two-hour city tour offers lots of interesting information,e.g. that world-renowned composers such as R. Strauss and several members of the J.S. Bach family,
as well as the best organ builder of his day, Gottfried Silbermann, were on the payroll of the Saxon rulers,
that R. Wagner called our Sächsische Staatskapelle a “Wunderharfe” (magic harp)
on its 300th anniversary, und that a descendant of the Strauß waltz dynasty composed
the waltz An der Elbe as a homage to his beloved Dresden.
Tip: Try a coach tour including the Richard Wagner memorial site in Graupa
or the Carl Maria von Weber Museum. I would love to show you en route where Franz Schubert
found inspiration for his famous Die schöne Müllerin lieder cycle and to explain about
the Dresdner Amen and the local choral societies.
