Albertinum: bridge to Modernism
Named after the Saxon king Albert, the museum of sculptures and pictures by modern masters still standsin the shadow of Dresden’s other great, world-renowned collections. Artefacts from five millennia wait
to be discovered: examples of Egyptian and Greco-Roman cultures, of neo-Classicism, Classical Modernism
and works by contemporary artists, including paintings from C.D. Friedrich to G. Richter.
In bright, clearly structured rooms, a new concept presents pictures and sculptures in dialogue,
arranged according to epochs of art history and related to selected sculptures
in the neighbouring viable depots.
Our ninety-minute discovery tour ends in the inner courtyard underneath the seemingly
floating roof construction – the highlight to finish the transformation of the 450-year-old
arsenal into a museum.
